DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2010

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2010 in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Defiance County Administrator, met with the Commissioners for her weekly report and project updates. 

 

Record Center.  Rhonda Casler reported that from January 1 to August 31, 2010 there were 1,219 record requests which is a 5% increase over last year.

 

Child Support.  Sandy Schappert stated that they have 2,857 cases with orders and approximately 100 of those cases are where the Obligor is incarcerated for more than one year.

 

Family and Children First Council/Help Me Grow.  Julie Voll reported that she updated the Service Coordination Mechanism and received state approval, spoke at Voices for Ohio’s Children regional briefing, familiarized Health Department staff to the Home Visitation model, and informed us that the Health Department staff has begun making home visits.

 

Public Safety.  Julie Rittenhouse reported that she is working on the open house scheduled for September 20, 2010.

 

Laura reported that Ward Construction plans to start on the Airport Taxiway Phase II the week of September 13th. 

 

Tina Hiler, Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Tina reported that at the Senior Day at the Defiance County Fair breakfast was served to 130 people, lunch was served to 400 people, and entertainment was provided throughout the day.  The DCSS Auxiliary will sell the pop and water for the Defiance Ribfest as a fund raiser.  

 

The move from the old Senior Center to the new Senior Center begins September 10th.  Home delivered frozen meals have been delivered for citizens to use on September 9 and 10.

 

The Commissioners held the viewing on a request filed by landowners for the vacation of Elmwood Drive, east of Upton Street and west of Florence Avenue (now vacated) in Richland Township, Defiance County, Ohio.  There was no public in attendance.
