DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2008
The
Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 8:30 a.m.
on Thursday, September 11, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners
James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
The
Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents, reviewed agenda items and the calendar of
events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The
Clerk of the Joint Board of Commissioners of Defiance and Williams Counties
received a letter from Sean Logan, Director of Ohio Department of Natural
Resources, stating that he is voting to approve proceeding to the Final Hearing
on the Lick Creek Ditch Improvement Project.
The
Board received the August Activity Report from Clerk of Courts, Jean Ziegler.
Jean reported collecting legal fees of $23,504.07 and title fees of
$3,329.66. The Certificate of Title
Administrative Fund received $9,988.87.
Jean also reported deposits for the following: legal fees of $79,960.89 and
title fees of $426,677.26. The sales or
use and dealers tax collected was $403,085.15 and watercraft tax collected
equaled $2,536.01. The number of titles
issues was 2,041, number of notation of liens 524 and number of inspection was
435.
Laura
Howell, Defiance
County Administrator, met with the Commissioners for her weekly update. Laura informed the Commissioners that the new
website is on schedule. The airport
window installation project was completed yesterday and is due to be inspected
within the next day or two.
Director of Job and Family
Services, Jack Graf met with the Commissioners to provide an update. He informed the Commissioners that due to
state budget cuts, his department will be receiving approximately $130,000 less
next year.
Dennis
Miller from Maumee
Valley Planning Organization brought Mary Oakley, Ohio Department of
Development, in to meet the Commissioners.
Commissioners attended the
special Wind Energy Issues Briefing at the EMA Building
co-sponsored by OSU Extension and Defiance County Farm Bureau. Dale Arnold, Director of Energy Services for
the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, discussed possible wind development in the
County.
