NEWS RELEASE
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference
Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512
on Monday, September 15, 2003.
The meeting was called to order by
Thomas Kime, Chairman. Present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L.
Cromwell. Also present was Joan Brown, Deputy
Clerk.
8:30 a.m. General
Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and
documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the
calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the
calendar of events.
9:45 a.m. Marlene Goodwin, County
Auditor, along with Jill Little and Barb Lasek, Deputy Auditors, met briefly with the
Board to review the County’s Fixed Assets Policy.
10:00 a.m. Gaylon Davis,
County Engineer,
met with the board to present his weekly update. Work continues on the Hopkins
Street and Clinton Street
bridges. Work is underway on the bridge
replacement at the intersection of Banner
School and Rath Roads. The KeyBank parking lot should be sealed and
lined soon.
The first pier casing has been set in the river for the Bend
Road bridge project. Work on this project has been extremely slow
due to the heavy rainfall this summer.
10:30 a.m. Will Burns, Maumee Valley Planning, met
with the Board to review information regarding A & P Tool, Inc. Mr. Burns will finalize documents and return
on Thursday for the Board’s approval.
11:00 a.m. Mark
Hopper and Julie Fowler,
Public Safety Services and Chief Bill Wilkins, City Fire Department, scheduled
to meet with the board regarding a FEMA Planning grant, called to cancel their
meeting and will reschedule for a later date.
The Board and the 911 Board are
negotiating an agreement with the Ney Village Council
to install an antenna on the water tower at the Fairview Schools. With the repeater at this location, all fire
departments in the county will have better communications.
Thursday, September 11, at 1:30
p.m., the Board and several property owners attended the viewing
for the Sherwood North Drainage Project #03-04.
The viewing provided the opportunity for the County
Commissioners and County
Engineer to view the petitioned
area and for the property owners to point out concerns at the site. A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday,
October 2, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fairview
Elementary School.
At 6:30 p.m. today,
the Commissioners will be attending the Farm Bureau Annual Meeting and Dinner
at the Sherwood VFW. At 7:00 p.m. the Peterson Ditch #97-1 Public
Hearing will be held at the Soil and Water Conservation office.
On Wednesday, September 17, at 3:30 p.m., Commissioners will be attending a meeting
with the Defiance City Mayor and the Plummer brothers regarding water and sewer
to their property.
The County Auction
is scheduled for Saturday, October 11, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the
Evergreen Lane Office Complex at 06879 Evansport Road. A list of available
