The Board of Defiance County
Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street,
Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512
on Thursday September 15,
2005. The meeting was called
to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.
Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime
and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner,
Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
8:30 A.M. General Session Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk, presented various resolutions,
contracts and documents for approval of the Commissioners. Commissioners also approved several travel
requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming
meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.
Received the activity report from the Clerk of Courts Jean
Ziegler. Jean reported the legal Fees
collected were $11,698.46, Title fees collected were $6,425.25, Sales use and
Dealers tax collected was $507,712.13, Watercraft taxes collected were
$2,607.21. Jean also reported her office
issued 2,876 titles, and 611 inspections.
Received the Summary report from Jeff Strausbaugh, Defiance
County Prosecuting Attorney. The
Prosecutor indicated that the total No. of Criminal Cases prosecuted to
Conviction was an estimate of 250. Total
Fines Assessed was $67,300.
9:15 a.m. The Board met with John Horns, Dr. Gladine
Roberts and Kara Priest from ProMedica Air and Mobile
to discuss a new hanger at the Defiance
County Airport. Discussed various issues and another meeting
will be scheduled with the airport board and TAS Aviation at a future date.
10:00: A.M. Becky Wagner,
Defiance County Administrator, reported that the offices located at Island
Parkway: Economic Development, Small Business, Maumee Valley Planning
Organization, Juvenile Probation, Veterans, One Stop, Health Department, Wic
and Board of Elections are in the process of moving this week and next week to
their new offices located at the Defiance
County East
Building on East Second Street.
Also, reported to the Board that being a
part of the CCAO Workers’ Comp Group Rating Plan the County qualified for a
rebate this year estimated at $35,000.
10:30 A.M. Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for his
departmental update. Randy reported that
he investigated 135 dog complaints, had 291 personal contacts, handled 12 dog
bites, 31 citations were issued, 33 dogs were taken to the shelter and 1,500 pounds
of animals taken to the landfill. Also,
reported that dog tag sales to-date is $64,801.03. This is an increase of $1,048.00 from the
same time last year.
11:00 A.M. 1st Insurance representative Ken
Keller viewed with the Board where the County currently stands on health
insurance.
