COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 8:30 a.m.
on Thursday, September 25, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely,
Laura Howell, Administrator and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General
Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and
documents. The Commissioners also
reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell, Administrator,
provided her weekly update to the Board.
Laura provided various department
updates. Greg Reinhart, Director of Defiance County Wastewater Operations, is a member
of the Northwest Ohio AWWA team who competed in the Top OPS competition. His team, consisting of members from Montpelier and Lima,
won in preliminary competition and the finals.
Their team will represent Ohio for the
international competition next June in San
Diego, CA. This competition is a question and answer
competition.
The Maintenance Department
received quotes on removal of 13 trees from County property, 3 at Evergreen
Lane Office Complex and 10 from the Defiance County East/Sheriff’s Office
Complex. The Maintenance Supervisor has
been instructed to replace these trees.
Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Manager, met with the Board for his monthly
update. Mr. Houck submitted his monthly
financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill to the Board. The sales summary total for August 2008 was $252,034.35.
The annual tons total to date is 7,641.84 and the annual cubic yards are 30,072. Mr. Houck also reported the yearly/monthly
cubic yards comparison for August 2008 is 30,122 vs. 59,535 for this same time
in 2007. The yearly monthly tons
comparison submitted for August 2008 was 7,641.84 tons vs. 13,192.16 tons in
August 2007. Leachate monthly gallon
total for the month of July was 610,405.
Mannik and Smith
Group, Inc. submitted a Construction Documentation Report to the Ohio EPA on
August 20, 2008 for the Phase 2 BAT Cell at the Defiance County Landfill. On September 18, 2008, the Board was informed
that Phase 2 BAT Cell Construction has been approved by the Ohio EPA. The next step for this project at the
landfill is the waste placement process.
