OPENING:    

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners was called to order at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2002, in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.

A.        APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

The minutes for the September 26, 2002 meeting were reviewed, and finding no additions or corrections, were approved as read.

C.                OPEN ISSUES/DISCUSSION

 

Steve Graf, County Engineer’s office, obtained signatures on two oversized load forms – both for double-wide trailers from All-American Homes, Decatur, Indiana.

 

D.        APPOINTMENTS

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session

 

9:30 a.m.        Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to present his weekly update.  Ward Construction has not begun work on the parking lot behind KeyBank.  Deadline for completion is this Friday.  Mr. Davis noted that penalties will be imposed on ward if the project is not completed.

 

Regarding other issues, Gaylon noted:

 

Ø      the Snyder Road CSX crossing improvement project has begun today. 

 

Ø      the 2002 Paving of Roads Project is nearly complete – some minor patching still needs to be addressed.

 

Ø      AKIL has delayed construction work on Beerbower until later this month.

 

Ø      Seal Coating project is complete.   

 

Ø      Gaylon estimates this year’s salt prices to be $39.54 per ton

 

10:00 a.m.      Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, Inc., met with the Commissioners for an update of several projects.  Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, remained during the beginning of the meeting as possible alterations to the KeyBank facility to accommodate the Engineer’s office were discussed.

 

Mr. Davis left at 10:30 a.m. and the group then reviewed plans and discussed the Courthouse Renovation Project.   To accommodate suggestions received from the written Courthouse survey taken during the County fair, Commissioners requested Jerry submit total restoration costs of the existing Courthouse and costs to demolish and build a totally new courthouse in place of the old. 

 

1:00 p.m.        Commissioner Nicely went to DCTV for a taping.  Rich Edmonds, Good Samaritan School Administrator, also went to the taping to discuss the upcoming levy.
