DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Defiance County Administrator, met with the Commissioners for her weekly report and project updates.   Laura informed the Board that Ward Construction has approximately half the dirt moved for the airport taxiway project.  Ward Construction will begin subgrade work next, and then proceed with stone and asphalt. 

 

Rhonda Casler, Defiance County Records Center, met with the Commissioners to present a brief history of the Defiance County Jail & Sheriff’s residence.  Rhonda has been researching the written history of the building and trying to find pictures and memorabilia for the building and its residents.  The Commissioners commended Rhonda’s efforts, but would like her to try to obtain more photographs and memorabilia if possible.  If you have any photographs or memorabilia that you would be willing to share, please contact Rhonda at 419-782-8918.

 

Cheryl Brown met with the Commissioners to discuss the $5,000.00 donation from Ballfest for handicap accessible parking at the Fairgrounds.  Cheryl informed the Board that this year’s Ballfest made approximately $15,000.00 that was split with 1/3 going to the grandstand project, 1/3 for handicap accessible parking, and 1/3 being retained for seed money for the 2011 Ballfest.  Cheryl stated that the Ballfest Committee will be having the handicap accessible parking work done in the spring.

 

The Commissioners will be attending the LEPC meeting at Defiance EMA Building on Friday, October 1, 2010.
