NEWS RELEASE
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville
Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio
on Thursday, October 2, 2003. The meeting was called to order by Thomas
Kime, Chairman. Present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L.
Cromwell. Also present was Becky
Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes,
Clerk. Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk was
present for the Defiance session.
8:30 a.m. General
Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and
documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the
calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the
calendar of events.
At approximately 9:30 a.m.,
the meeting recessed and will reconvene in Defiance.
10:00 a.m. Becky Wagner, Administrator, presented her
weekly update at this time. She noted
that cement slabs have been poured under the propane tanks at Evergreen Lane
Office Complex.
She reviewed a request from the Sheriff for the purchase of
a 1997 Aurora for $6,500. This vehicle has 63,400 miles on it. A 1990 Thunderbird, with 131,000 miles,
currently in use by one of the Sheriff’s deputies, will be traded. The Board approved the purchase.
Becky also reviewed information submitted at last week’s Supervisor’s
meeting.
During this time, the Board began reviewing budget figures
for 2004.
11:30 a.m. Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, met
with the Board to open bids for the Evergreen Lane Re-roof Project. Also present for the bid opening was: Ann
Westrick, Richland Company and Associates of Defiance and Andy Screptock,
Damschroeder Construction, Fremont.
Bids were received from the following:
Damschroeder Construction $67,685.00
Fremont, Ohio
Richland Company & Associates $51,980.00
Defiance, Ohio
(The above bids represent BASE BID only.)
The project is estimated at $75,000.00
The Board accepted the bids as presented for further review. Jerry will submit his project recommendation
early next week.
11:30 a.m. Russ Herman, Chief Assistant Prosecuting
Attorney, met briefly with the Board to discuss various issues concerning the
potential purchase of the old Hospital facility’s Medical Office Building.
The Board also discussed the issue of bed allocations for
CCNO. After discussion, the Defiance
County Commissioners decided to stay with the current 65-bed allocation for Defiance
due to the fact that the demand is too great to reduce the allocation at this
time.
