DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.  Warren presented and reviewed his 2008 Accumulated Revenue Report with the Board.  Warren updated the Board on current projects.  The Highway Department is currently working along the road side of Hicksville-Spencerville Road.  Gerken Paving, Inc. will be starting the reconstruction project fro Hicksville-Spencerville Road - Urban on Wednesday; this project is from the curve at the park entrance to Casebeer-Miller Road.

 

The Board received the September Activity Report from Clerk of Courts, Jean Ziegler.  Jean reported collecting legal fees of $14,539.84 and title fees of $3,315.83.  The Certificate of Title Administrative Fund received $9,947.51.  Jean also reported deposits for the following: legal fees of $68,439.78 and title fees of $457,771.65.  The sales or use and dealers tax collected was $436,806.55 and watercraft tax collected equaled $645.24.  The number of titles issues was 2,042, number of notation of liens 490 and number of inspection was 456.

 

The Board attended the Continued First Hearing for the Lick Creek Project at the Ney Legion Hall at 1:15 p.m.  The Joint Board voted to proceed to the final hearing with the project. The Joint Board voted to have the minimum assessment for the project to be $50.00 per parcel for construction.  The Joint Board authorized the Engineer, Warren Schlatter to provide the final report and assessments to the Board on March 2, 2009.  The Joint Board approved the transfer of $15,000.00 per County to be transferred into the drainage fund to pay for the engineering costs.  The Joint Board adjourned the meeting, to be continued on March 2, 2009 at 1:15 p.m. at the Ney Legion Hall.
