DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, October 12, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner and Clerk Lyla Gurwell.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, reviewed, and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners reported that an employee of the Defiance County Department of Job & Family Services was put on administrative leave with pay.  It was brought to the Commissioners attention that there might be irregularities in some paperwork at Children’s Services that will need to be looked into.

 

The Commissioners then signed grant agreements: one for $95,000 and another for $405,000 from the Ohio Department of Development for the purpose of providing for the performance of the (CDBG) Community Housing Program.  Defiance County plans to rehabilitate nine private owner-occupied units, provide emergency repair to six owner occupied homes and provide assistance to three households with down payment assistance/ rehabilitation.  Homebuyer counseling will be provided both prior to and after purchase.

 

Defiance County Administrator; Becky Wagner presented her report to the Board of County Commissioners.               

 

Becky reported she approved R. G. Zachrich, to install a tracer wire in the airport sewer line project. Becky advised the Board on the progress of this project.  R.G. Zachrich has gotten 575 feet of boring done and 2400 feet of trenching done and the manhole is set in front of the treatment plant at Evergreen.

 

Becky also advised the Commissioners she spoke with Defiance County Engineer Warren Schlatter, regarding concrete pipe currently being stored at the Highway Garage.  Warren was advised to prepare a resolution to dispose of the pipe which will then allow him to post it on the internet to see if there would be anyone interested in hauling it away rather than paying for disposal.

 

Becky also mentioned it was time to schedule an update with Ken Keller of First Insurance to review the Defiance County Health Insurance Program.  The Commissioners will review the report with Mr. Keller during a future meeting.

 

Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter came in for a Bid Opening for Harding Road Clearing & Grubbing.

 

Warren received bids from Auglaize Tree Service, Marietta, OH for $35,636, Saylor Tree Service, Hicksville, OH for $39,900 and T & J Excavating & Tree Clearing from Holland, OH for the amount of $31,150.  The Commissioners will take the bids under advisement and award the project at a later date.

         

The Defiance City Board of Control, Mayor Armstrong, Jeff Leonard, Dave Williams and John Seele came in to discuss various projects with the Commissioners.  One project discussed was the Elliott Road project.  The Commissioners as well as City Officials will continue to work together along with Economic Development to encourage new businesses to come to Defiance County.
