DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2005

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday October 13, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

 

8:30 A.M.     General Session      Clerk, Lyla Gurwell presented various resolutions, contracts and documents for approval of the Commissioners.  Commissioners also approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners signed the resolution authorizing the sale of 11.0548 acres at Island Parkway Properties located off Second Street in Richland Township, Defiance, OH.  The property was transferred to the Community Improvement Corporation of Defiance, County, Inc.  The proceeds of the sale will be transferred to the Defiance County General Fund.

 

9:15 A.M.     Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer along with Tim Houck, Landfill Administrator met the Commissioners and held the 3rd Quarterly Investment Meeting and the Commissioners approved the Defiance County Investment Portfolio.

 

9:30 A.M.     Becky Wagner, Defiance County Administrator discussed the canopy at the new Defiance County East Office Complex.  To reduce the risk of causing an accident by driving under the canopy with an oversized vehicle, the Defiance County Engineer will install height limits on the top to deter patrons from entering with an unauthorized vehicle.

 

Additionally, there are two restrooms that need new floor coverings prior to the Grand Opening schedule for October 23, 2005 at 1:00 p.m.

 

 

9:30 A.M.     Mike Boff from Soil & Water facilitated the bid opening for the English Ditch Project located in Delaware Township, Defiance County Ohio.  Bids were received from Shininger Surface Drainage, Ney, OH -  $2,860, S & S Directional Boring, Bryan, OH - $3,180 and Zenz Farms, Delta, OH - $2,900.  The Commissioners along with Mr. Boff will take all of the bids under advisement and return with an award next week.

 

Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts submitted her activity report for the month of September 2005.  The Clerk of Courts collected $11,139.16 for Legal Fees, Title Fees of $954.88, Certificate of Title Fees - $9,201.93, Sales or Use and Dealers’ tax collected - $382,592.27, and the Watercraft tax collected was $1,754.68.

 


 

 

Jean Ziegler reported the Number of titles issued – 2,217, number of notation of liens – 571, number of inspections – 507, new car titles – 138, motorcycles titles – 37, motor home titles 8, used cars titles – 1,317, New Truck titles – 43, used truck titles – 473, van titles – 31, manufactured home titles – 39, trailer titles – 41, Travel trailers – 12, Motor home titles – 8, busses – 3, off-road vehicles – 19 and watercraft titles – 56.

 

3:00 P.M.     Dennis Fligor, a representative from the office of Senator Voinovich was in to discuss a new prescription program for seniors through Medicare.  Mr. Fligor mentioned that if you are age 65 or older you will be receiving information on the new plan.  Those already on Medicare will also receive information regarding this program. 

 

Dennis discussed the prescription aspect of the program; if you need to fill your prescriptions, you can log on to the following link www.medicare.gov and click on Prescriptions, enter your dosage and name brand of drug and the program will provide you with the best place to get your prescription filled. The deadline to sign up for this program is May 15, 2006.
