DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Defiance County Administrator, met with the Commissioners for her weekly report and project updates. Laura provided the following department updates:

Child Support.  Sandy Schappert reported for September: Approximate caseloads include 2,851 cases with orders and 285 cases without orders, $5,351,873 collections year to date, $524,392 expenditures year to date, $574,559 actual collections for the month, and $201 average collection per case for the month. 

Public Safety.  Julie Rittenhouse reported that on Monday, she, Ron Cereghin, Larry Woods and Eric Weber completed the building inspection of Defiance County East and the new Senior Center. 

Dog Warden.  Randy Vogel stated that door to door dog tag checks is continuing. 

Maintenance. Ron Cereghin reported that the Senior Center flag pole and step repairs should be completed by Friday, weather permitting.   He is also in the process of replacing nine deciduous trees at the Defiance County East complex.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Courthouse ADA Improvements project.  The push-button mechanism for the ADA accessible doors into the Courthouse will be installed through the Historic Jail Project.

 

Pam Schroeder and Tim Holtsberry, Board of Elections, met with the Commissioners to discuss their budget.  The Board of Elections has received the settlement check of $6,317.50 from Premier/Diebold. The 23 new machines are to arrive on October 22, 2010. The Board of Elections requested to use some of those funds for the remainder of 2010.  The Board of Elections is requiring $1000 to pay for the shipping on the machines.  The Board of Elections needs a total of $3000 in additional funds for Printing and Advertising  - $1,100 to advertise for a new deputy Director and $1,900 in miscellaneous printing for the November 2, 2010 General Election. The Commissioners approved the utilization of the settlement check in the manner proposed by the Board of Elections.
