DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2006

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, October 16, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, reviewed, and updated the calendar of events.

 

Defiance County Engineer Warren J. Schlatter came in for his weekly update.  Warren reported the Farmer Mark Road Bridge - 0.50 Miles North of Blosser Road in Farmer Township is now open to through traffic.  This bridge is made up of Geo-synthetic abutment and reinforced concrete beams which were made at the County Highway Garage.

 

Bridge crews are also working on the Vine Street Bridge – 0.30 Miles East of US 127 in the Village of Sherwood.  This will be the last bridge completed this year.

 

Defiance County Waste Water Operations Director Greg Reinhart came in to update the Board on Wastewater Operations and finances.  Greg reported he has done a number of home inspections, changed a relay at Breckler Road Lift Station, greased and oiled all plants and pump stations and worked on the Evansport skimmer line.

 

Jerry Overmier with Beilharz Architects came in for the bid opening for the Old Hospital Demolition.  Jerry received two bids.  One from LJ Irving from Napoleon, Oh for the amount of $32,000 and another from Miller Contracting from Ottoville, OH for the amount of $32,000.  The Commissioners will take the bids under advisement and award at a later date.

 

Ken Keller from First Insurance came in to review the county employee health insurance program with Commissioners.  Ken presented information on claim results beginning January 1, 2006 through September 30, 2006.  The Commissioners will review this information further and meet with Ken at a later date. 

 

Bill Biery, Director of Maumee Valley Guidance Center came in to discuss the expansion of Maumee Valley Guidance Center.  Mr. Biery indicated they are running out of room to house the number of employees necessary to support their needs.

 

Mr. Biery presented an expansion plan drawn up by Poggemeyer Design.  The proposed addition would cost approximately $300,000.  Mr. Biery is going to look at different funding sources through both the public and private sector.  This cost is based on new construction using materials that are similar to the existing structure.

 

Morris Murray, Director of Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency came in to update the Commissioners on his department.  He indicated he is working on reorganizing his department to better serve the public.
