COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2008
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 8:30 a.m.
on Thursday, October 16, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely,
Laura Howell, County Administrator
and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General
Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents,
approved several travel requests, reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Laura
Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the
Board. Laura informed the Commissioners
that a mobile collection to provide for safe and convenient disposal of
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) will be held this Saturday, October 18th
from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. The drop off
location will be in the south parking lot of Johns Manville at Carpenter Road. The following wastes will be accepted: paint,
thinners, turpentine, used oil, lighter fluid, polishes, old gasoline,
kerosene, antifreeze, florescent bulbs and mercury & mercury-containing
devices. The following will not be accepted:
adhesives, pool chemicals, acid & caustics, drain cleaners, paint
strippers, propane, strong chemicals, rat poison, insecticides, alkaline, NiCad
or Lithium batteries, appliances, tires, ammunition, asbestos, trash, needles
& medical waste, vehicle batteries and bleach & household cleaners.
Rick Edmonds, Good Samaritan
School, and Jerry Overmier, Beilharz
Architects met with the Commissioners to discuss the Good Samaritan School A/C
& Boiler Project. Rick Edmonds
informed the Commissioners that the Good Samaritan School Board has approved
the project to go out to bid.
Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, presented his
September 2008 report to the Commissioners. Randy reported that he received 155
complaints, of which 3 were dog bites.
41 dogs were taken to the shelter and there were 30 citations
issued. Randy also transported 840
pounds of animals to the Landfill and drove 2,709 miles for the month of
September.
Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the
Commissioners to provide the 3rd Quarter investment update. The amount of the Defiance County Portfolio
was at $47,211,401.84 with a weighted maturity of 242 days and a weighted yield
at 3.47%.
Wednesday night, the Commissioners attended a US 24 corridor marketing
meeting. The Commissioners in
cooperation with representatives of Henry and Paulding Counties
and Villages have agreed to move forward with a regional marketing project by
hiring B.J. Fisher of FLS Marketing as a consultant.
