DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2010

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Otto L. Nicely, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney, and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.  

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Warren informed the Commissioners that Stever Road opened last week and Behnfeldt Road between Blosser Road and Ney-Williams Center Road is closed for a bridge replacement.  Warren also informed the Board that since the SR 66 Bridge over US 24 is open, the intersection on Carpenter Road and Elliott Road is now a 2-way stop.

 

Greg Reinhart, Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Greg informed the Board that the following repairs have been done: replaced grinder on Switzer Road; greased & oiled all plants and pump stations; changed fuse at Express sewer pump station; installed new blower at Middle Gordon Creek; new motor soft start, air release valve installed and cleaned check valve at Express sewer pump station; cleaned pump at Christy Meadows.

 

Jeff Ankey, Soil and Water, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Jeff informed the Board that the Krause Ditch, Stover Ditch and Bee Tree Run Stream Restoration Project are all completed.  Willitzer Ditch and Hoschak Tile Extension is working on design/waiting on public hearing.  Rosedale Road Ditch is being surveyed and working on preliminary report. Mark Center Ditch is being surveyed this winter.   There has been 33 engineering plans (grass waterways, structures and WASCOBS – water and sediment control basins) completed including: over 2.4 miles of grass waterways installed with structures; over 15 acres of wetland ponds installed; 5 WASCOB systems installed; 5 water control structures installed.  The education program has reached 9,500 students and 1,200 adults this year.  It is over the $1,000,000 mark in CREP (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) money for Defiance County.

 

Sandy Schappert, Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Sandy reported during the month of September $574,559 was collected.  During August and September, collections were slightly higher than in 2009.  There were 28 genetic tests, 30 administrative reviews and 101 court and/or administrative hearings held in this quarter.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Tina reported that there will be an Open House on Thursday, October 21st.  At 1:30 pm there will be a presentation of gifts to major contributors.  From 2:30 pm until 5:30 pm there is a Public Open House with Bette’s Polka Band in the auditorium and refreshments in the café.
