DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, October 26, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present was Commissioners Richard Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, reviewed, and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners discussed the bids, which were opened on Monday, October 23 for the Schick Road Canoe Launch site.  Based on review and recommendation of Dennis Miller, Director of Maumee Valley Planning, this project will be awarded to Sines Excavating for $13,943.00.

 

Also approved was a resolution for the award of the Mattock Ditch project.  Bids for this project were opened on Thursday, October 19, 2006.  The bid was awarded to Meck-Donald’s Contracting, Archbold, OH for $41,311.00.

 

The Commissioners also approved the use of Permissive Tax Funds for the City of Defiance for $19,088.  The money will be used for maintenance on designated Permissive Tax Routes in accordance with Section 4504.02 and 4504.04 of the Ohio Revised Code.

 

Also passed was a resolution expressing the counties intent to sell personal property via internet auction. Some items that can be auctioned through a seller’s agreement between GovDeals, Inc. and the Defiance County Commissioners are motor vehicles, road machinery, tools, supplies, or equipment, which are unneeded or obsolete items. 

 

The Commissioners will establish the minimum prices that may be accepted for any property that is the subject of the internet auction. The terms and conditions of any particular sale that may occur including requirements for pickup and/ or delivery of the property, method of payment and payment of sales tax in accordance with applicable state laws will also be a part of the necessary paperwork.

 

Defiance County Administrator Becky Wagner submitted her report to Commissioners and discussed the lighting at the Defiance County East location.  The Commissioners advised Becky to work with Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor to get quotes on putting the lighting on separate breakers so they are not all on at the same time.
