DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, October 30, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Richard Cromwell, and Otto Nicely as well as County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, reviewed, and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners met with Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer.  Warren along with Commissioners discussed directional signage for current and developing businesses on Carpenter and Elliott Roads.  Because of traffic safety issues, Warren suggested it would make sense to come up with a policy that would allow signage to be placed on certain routes to direct traffic onto the correct road and keep truck traffic off the roads they should not be traveling.  Warren would like to talk with City officials regarding this matter to ensure consistency throughout the county.

 

Warren indicated that Vine Street should be paved this week (weather permitting) and the guardrail will also be put by Friday of this week. Warren hopes the bridge can be open by this weekend.

 

Warren said the highway crew does have two culvert replacements in Farmer Township and hopes to have them done before the weather changes.

 

Jim Harris from Defiance County Soil & Water Conservation District held two ditch hearings. One for the McCavit Ditch located in Farmer Township and the other was the Johnson Ditch located in Delaware Township.  Both ditch maintenance hearings were continued and will be rescheduled when additional information can be collected from the appropriate parties.

 

Jim also mentioned that Kevin Hancock, currently a technician for the Soil and Water Conservation District will be promoted to the position of Ditch Maintenance Administrator on November 13, 2006.

 

Tim Houck, Director of the Defiance County Landfill came in for his monthly update with Commissioners.  Tim reported the annual sales summary for the landfill is currently at $2,379,145 through September.  The annual tons totals are at 8,680 through September, annual cubic yards through September are at 31,213 with a year to date total of 259,867.  The Leachate monthly gallon total is at 41,740 for the month of September with a year to date total of 608,500 gallons.

                                       

Pat Slattery, President of the Defiance County Fair Board came in to discuss the billing for livestock sales and the distribution of monies regarding the Junior Fair Livestock Sales.  Pat indicated the information was recently received and everything will be taken care of by no later than November 20th.
