NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Monday, November 3, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk. 

 

 

8:30 a.m.        Russ Herman, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Defiance County, met with the Board to review any documents pending his review and/or approval.  Currently, Mr. Herman is up-to-date on County documents.

 

 

9:00 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events. 

 

Commissioner reviewed two quotes submitted by Robin Justus, Business Manager, Defiance County Senior Services Center, for the purchase of a new computer system for the Senior Services Center as one of their current systems is failing.

The Board approved the quote from Arend Enterprises for $1,202.00. 

 

 

10:00 a.m.      Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, was scheduled to meet with the Board for his weekly update at this time but it was found that he is out of the office this week. 

 

 

10:30 a.m.      Jerry Hayes, County Economic Development Director, met with the Board to present several Enterprise Zone Agreements and Amendments.

 

Two new Enterprise Zone Agreements were presented for their review and approval:

 

Hubbard Company – will purchase new machinery and equipment to improve production capacity and maintain jobs (total $770,000); currently 40 persons are employed – this project will add 4 new permanent, full-time employees; receiving a 100% tax exemption on all machinery and equipment for 7 years – Defiance City Schools: 34.7%, Four County Career Center: 3%.  Estimated average donation over 7 year period = $8,393 for Defiance City Schools and $251.80 for Four County Schools. 

 

 

 

 

Arps Dairy, Inc – construct an addition and make improvements to existing building, purchase 3 new milk silos and 1 cream silo to expand production (total $200,000); currently 18 persons are employed – this project will add 6 new jobs; receiving a 100% tax exemption on all machinery and equipment for 7 years – Defiance City Schools: 27.0%, Four County Career Center: 3%.  Estimated average donation over 7 year period = $515 for Defiance City Schools and $57.23 for Four County Schools.

 

Two Enterprise Zone Amendments were then presented (a third, Werlor/Bentley Enterprises, required a few corrections and will be re-submitted):

 

Defiance Statutory Trust – name change only.  Was PNC Leasing, LLC.

 

A & P Tool, Inc – decrease in job creations only – from 24 full-time permanent to 12 full-time permanent jobs. 

 

All the above Agreements and Amendments were approved by the Board.

 

1:30 p.m.        Jane Tadsen, County Recorder, met with the Board to review information concerning her Fund Line #048.  They reviewed a section of Revised Code pertaining to the County Recorder’ department for clarification purposes.
