DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board.  Laura provided various department updates.  The County recently had fleet inspections of County-owned vehicles.  The State Highway Patrol conducted these for the County Departments.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.  The top coat of paving will be placed on Hicksville-Spencerville Road November 3, 2008.  There will still be roadside grading work and paint striping to be done.   

 

Defiance County Master Gardeners met with the Commissioners to discuss starting a community garden on Defiance County property, possibly at Defiance County East.  The Master Gardeners would like the location to be easily accessible, have water capabilities, good soil and visibility to the community.  More details will be available to the public at a later date regarding location and rules and regulations for the community garden.

 

Bev Hohenberger, Ohio Department of Development Regional Business Representative, met with the Commissioners to provide an update of the new position.  This position markets One-Stop services and www.OhioMeansJobs.com to businesses, assists with business layoff aversion, provides information and assistance finding training funds, surveys business needs and works with regional economic directors and workforce directors.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Manager, met with the Board for his monthly update.  Mr. Houck submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill to the Board.  The sales summary total for September 2008 was $259,448.38. The annual tons total to date is 8,379.09 and the annual cubic yards are 30,072.  Mr. Houck also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for September 2008 is 30,432 vs. 52,157 for this same time in 2007.  The yearly monthly tons comparison submitted for September 2008 was 8,379.09 tons vs. 10,224.66 tons in September 2007.  Leachate monthly gallon total for the month of September was 714,488.
