OPENING:    

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners was called to order at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2002, in the Conference Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio  43512 by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.

The minutes for the October 31, 2002 meeting were not complete as of this meeting date; therefore they will be reviewed at a later date.

C.                OPEN ISSUES/DISCUSSION

 

Commissioners reviewed the Recorder’s October 2002 report.  Her office handled 178 deed transfers, 646 mortgages, and 483 releases.  Total credited to the General Fund was $43,762.60, an increase of $4,314.60.  Due to the recent low interest rates, the Recorder’s office has been very busy. 

 

The Board of Elections received a voter registration report from the Secretary of State noting Defiance’s file was accepted with no errors – “outstanding – keep up the good work.”  

 

D.        APPOINTMENTS

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session

 

9:30 a.m.        Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to present his weekly update.  Work began today on the bridge on Casebeer-Miller Road, north of Jericho Road.  It is anticipated that the road will be closed approximately one week.   Gaylon reported that receipts from revenue, including motor vehicle/license tax, gas tax, and court fines, show an increase of approximately $37,000 over the same time last year.   

 

10:30 a.m.      Jim Harris, Soil and Water Conservation District Administrator; Jeff Ankney and Terri Agler of Soil and Water;  and Kim Chandler and Sue Fairchild, Deputy Auditors, Real Estate Section, met with the Commissioners to review lot split information for Ditch maintenance.

 

11:00 a.m.      Otto Gerdeman, Poggemeyer Design group, met with the Commissioners to update the Board on various County projects.

 

Indian Bridge Lane Sewer Project – estimated bidding time will be February 2003. 

 

Express Sewer – will re-set the bid date by Thursday, November 14.

 

Evansport Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements – will bid in December 2002. 

 

Meeting recessed for lunch at Noon.

 

 

 

1:30 p.m.        Alice Mack, Juvenile Probation, met with the Commissioners for an informational meeting regarding the various grants available to the Juvenile Probation Department and the purposes for which they are to be expended.
