DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

Jane Tadsen, Defiance County Recorder, reported recording 152 deeds, 218 mortgages, 187 releases, and 3 Power of Attorneys. The total of the month of October, 2007 was $27,370.95 of which $13,515.10 went toward the Housing Trust and $13,855.85 went toward the General Fund.

 

The Board received the October, 2007 Activity Report from Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts. Jean reported collecting Legal fees of $12,147.40 and Title Fees of $5,217.59. The Certificate of Title Administrative Fund is set at $9,689.80. Jean also reported deposits for the following: Legal fees of $81,876.57 and Title fees of $426,261.81. The Sales or Use and Dealer’s Tax collected was $401,371.93 and watercraft tax collected was $2,272.96. the number of titles issued was 2,258, the number of Notation of Liens was and the number of inspections was 549.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Warren advised that Highland Center Road, south of Watson Road, is still closed, but should be opened up by the end of the week. The seeding on Harding Road has been completed.

 

Pat Slattery, Defiance County Fairboard President, and Cheryl Brown, Defiance County Horse Council, met with the Commissioners to discuss the 4-H Horse barn roof at the fairgrounds. Pat said that he would ask the Fairboard what additional help they can put forth to help repair the roof.

 

Kevin Hancock, Ditch Maintenance Administrator, and landowners affected by the Hook Water Sediment Control Basin and tile met with the Commissioners to discuss possible repairs to the tile and putting the project into the Ditch Maintenance Program. No decision was made at this hearing. A further hearing will be scheduled once more information is obtained.

 

Ron Goller and Lynn Lantz, Auglaize Village Board members, Cindy Mack of Defiance Development & Visitors Bureau, and Tim Small, Defiance Area Chamber of Commerce, met with the Commissioners to discuss the future of Auglaize Village. Cindy will be gathering preliminary information from the Villages records and submitting a proposed plan to the Commissioners and Auglaize Village Board members on what needs to be done before being able to apply for grant monies.

 

The Final Hearing for the Farmer-Mark Ditch Tile Project will be on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Farmer Fire Hall.
