NEWS RELEASE

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Council Room of the Village of Hicksville, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, November 6, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present were Alison Grimes, Clerk and Debra Bloomfield, Deputy Clerk.

8:30 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

9:00 a.m.        Commissioners and Staff met with Diane Mayer at the Hicksville Senior Center to view the building and the lot behind the Center.  The lot is available for purchase and could be utilized for much-needed additional parking.  Diane also showed the Commissioners the interior of the building and possible locations for an elevator.  The basement of the structure is in excellent condition but is almost unused as it is not handicap accessible.  Diane was asked to get someone to check the basement area to see if a ramp could be installed or there might be space for a small elevator.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., everyone began the return back to Defiance.  Commissioner Nicely left the group to attend Family and Children First Council’s Annual Retreat at the Public Safety Services facility.  On the trip back, the Board and Staff made a stop at the Humane Shelter to view some construction/repair work.  There are several issues concerning the work that the Commissioners will address with the contractor.

11:00 a.m.      Ron Cereghin, County Maintenance Supervisor, met with the board for a brief update.  He submitted a proposal to make changes to the interior of the old milk house located on the old County Home property (which is used for storage) to add additional storage space, make it more accessible and repair deteriorating sections.  He would like to remove the old concrete troughs to increase the floor space area and install an overhead door to make it easier to get some of the larger equipment which is stored there in and out.  He presented a list of parts and materials totaling about $400 which he would need to purchase to complete the work.  Commissioners approved the project.   Ron also requested and received the okay to have a permanent parking spot behind the Commissioner’s annex for a maintenance vehicle.  He will have a sign made to note the parking space is reserved for maintenance.

Today’s meeting adjourned at 11:25 a.m.
