DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, November 6, 2008. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board.  Laura informed the Board that Family Children and First Council will be having a live radio spot for Christmas for Kids on December 8th from 7-9 a.m.  This will be held at the Court Street entrance of the Commissioners Building.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, and Rick Edmonds, Good Samaritan School, met with the Commissioners for the Good Samaritan School A/C & Boiler Work Bid opening.  The following Base bids were received: HVAC Work Only: L.R. Babcock-$156,990, Stark’s Inc.-$128,000, Helm & Assoc.-$186,000 and Commercial Comfort-$129,880; Electrical Work Only: Brint Electric-$24,370 and Stollsteimer Electric-$11,418; Combined HVAC and Electrical Work: Fitzenrider, Inc.-$166,857.  The bids were taken under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.

 

The Commissioners received from Jane Tadsen, Defiance County Recorder, the department’s report for October, 2008.  Jane reported to the Commissioners that during the month of October, 2008, there were 137 Deeds, 150 Mortgages, 181 Releases, 2 Leases and 2 Plats.  The total for the month of October, 2008 was $20,679.15, of which $10,176.20 went toward the Housing Trust Fund and $10,502.95 went toward the General Fund.

 

The Commissioners received the October Activity Report from Clerk of Courts, Jean Ziegler.  Jean reported collecting legal fees of $14,084.79 and title fees of $2,929.94.  The Certificate of Title Administrative Fund received $8,789.82.  Jean also reported deposits for the following: legal fees of $110,804.05 and title fees of $428,141.97.  The sales or use and dealers tax collected was $408,413.15 and watercraft tax collected equaled $2,071.87.  The number of titles issues was 1,766, number of notation of liens 410 and number of inspection was 376.
