DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, November 9, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, reviewed, and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners submitted a request for reimbursement from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (Nature Works) for $11,497 for the construction of the High Street Canoe Launch.  The original grant amount was $24,971.

 

The Commissioners signed the contracts for the 2006 Harding Road & Power Dam Road Tree Removal.  The project was awarded to T & J Excavating & Tree Clearing from Holland, OH for $31,150.

 

The Commissioners also signed the contracts for the Mattock Ditch project.  This project was awarded to Meck-Donald’s Contracting, Archbold, OH for $41,311.

 

The Commissioners plan to schedule a study session to discuss possible projects for fiscal year 2007.  One item would be the extension of the walking trail at Defiance County East.

 

Becky Wagner, Defiance County Administrator met with the Commissioners for her weekly update.

 

Becky informed the Commissioners that she authorized Help Me Grow Project Director, Heather Huffman to hold the Christmas for Kids broadcast this year.  The broadcast will be held at the Defiance County East parking lot on December 7, 2006 from 3-5:00 p.m.  The Defiance County Health Department will co-host this event.

 

Becky also discussed meeting with Dennis Miller, Director of Maumee Valley Planning about the Clean Ohio Trails Fund Grant.  Dennis thought there might be funding in the spring of 2007, which will come from Ohio Department of Natural Resources.  Dennis advised he would check into grant funding for a future project.

 

Becky also reported that Tim Houck, Director of Environmental Services received several quotes for a spreader for the landfill.   After discussion, the Commissioners approved the lowest quote from Kaffenbarger Truck Equipment for $2,995.00 as long as the spreader had a poly finish.

 

Becky also reported that Susan Gonwick from Jobs and Family Services would be doing a monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed on various activities within the department.

 

The Commissioners also reviewed leases for the Defiance County East Office Complex.  The Board met with Dennis McKay, Director of Defiance County Department of Job & Family Services, Dennis Miller, Director of Maumee Valley Planning and Matt Gilroy, Economic Development.

 

The Commissioners presented a 5-year proposal which allow them, if necessary, the opportunity to get out of the lease if they have a basis to do so.  Everyone will be charged the same amount with increases every year up to 5 years.
