DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2008

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board. Laura informed the Commissioners that Nature’s Way plans to plant trees at Defiance County East and Evergreen Lane Center to replace trees that were recently cut down.

The Commissioners approved the submittal of an application to USEPA for a Community-Wide Assessment Grant – Hazardous Substance in the amount of $200,000.00. Defiance County will use the Assessment Grant to build upon its existing economic development programs, helping the County compete with its larger neighbors, incentivize redevelopment of brownfields, preserve the County’s valuable green space, and encourage development of a sustainable community.

Ken Keller, First Insurance & Investments, met with the Commissioners to discuss insurance quotes for 2009. He reported that insurance claims were up so far for the year were up 27% from 2007. The Commissioners will be meeting with the Insurance Committee in the near future to discuss insurance changes.

The Commissioners will continue with budget meetings on Monday afternoon.

The Commissioners will also be attending the Kinner Ditch #04-01 Informational Meeting/Viewing Monday evening.
