DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2007 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk

 

Ken Keller, First Insurance & Investments, met with the Commissioners to discuss insurance quotes for 2008. The Commissioners have requested another meeting with Ken and to have Maggie Neely of County Employee Benefit Consotrium (CEBCO), attend this meeting before making any decisions on the county health insurance plan(s).

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, presented the Commissioners with her report. Laura advised that the repairs to the Animal Shelter’s roof has been completed. Also, Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, has received revised quotes for some of the trees to be planted at the Defiance County East building and Evergreen Lane Office Complex.

 

Laura advised that the County has requested a help wanted ad for two (2) custodial positions be ran in the Crescent News on November 14th, 16th, & 18th and in the Hicksville Tribune on November 14th & 21st.

 

Tina Hiler, Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Tina requested permission to purchase two used vehicles for the Senior Center to replace two aging vehicles. The Commissioners authorized Tina to proceed with purchasing the vehicles. Tina also discussed the goals and objectives of the Senior Center.

 

Cindy Mack, Defiance Development and Visitor’s Bureau, presented her update to the Commissioners. Cindy advised that the Bureau helped with the 127 Yard Sale as well as other activities. Cindy stated that the money for the Downtown Revitalization program should be coming in within the next couple of weeks.

 

Cindy attended the Auglaize Village Board meeting and has prepared a proposal of preliminary steps that need to be completed before applying for grant money.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners in Executive Session to discuss pending litigation. Executive Session ended with no decision being made. 

 

The Commissioners office will be closing at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 to allow the staff to attend the mandatory House Bill 9 training on Public Records policy.
