DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.   Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator and Stephanie Metz, Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board.  Laura provided updates from various county departments.  Defiance County Senior Services has received a $2,040.00 reduction in Alzheimer’s funding due to state-wide reduction in funding for Alzheimer’s Programs.  The Records Center has been indexing Marriage Records and Birth Records.  Child Support Enforcement Agency’s approximate caseload is 2,816.  The 2008 year-to-date collections are $6,449,475.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Manager, met with the Board for his monthly update.  Mr. Houck submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill to the Board.  The sales summary total for October 2008 was $252,579.03. The annual tons total to date is 7,968.46 and the annual cubic yards are 29,159.  Mr. Houck also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for October 2008 is 29,159 vs. 43,070 for this same time in 2007.  The yearly monthly tons comparison submitted for October 2008 was 7,968.46 tons vs. 8,951.96 tons in October 2007.  Leachate monthly gallon total for the month of October was 766,638. 

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, presented his October 2008 report to the Commissioners. Randy reported that he received 137 complaints, of which 6 were dog bites.  36 dogs were taken to the shelter and there were 24 citations issued.  Randy also transported 1,200 pounds of animals to the Landfill and drove 2,951 miles for the month of October.  New dog tags will go on sale December 1, 2008.  The cost is $14.00 per dog.  Dog tags can be purchased at the following locations: Defiance County Auditor’s Office, Defiance County Humane Society, Defiance Area Animal Hospital, Ayersville Carryout, Jewell Grain, Hicksville Police Department, Town & County Pets and Pet Supplies Plus.
