DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk. 

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

Karen Tubbs and Sue McKibben, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the Commissioners to discuss office transition.  The Commissioners appointed Sue McKibben as Defiance County Treasurer, effective December 1, 2010 until the Central Committee makes the permanent appointment.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.  

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Warren informed the Board the Behnfeldt Road opened last Wednesday after being closed for a bridge replacement.

 

Tim Houck, Environmental Services, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update.  Tim reported $232,480.47 in sales and 7,316.49 tons and 25,972 cubic yards collected in October compared to $215,753.69 in sales and 6,942.81 tons and 23,051 cubic yards collected in October 2009.

 

Matt Gilroy met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the Defiance County Airport.  Matt reported that the project is currently on hold until the weather meets project requirements.  The delay will not affect airport traffic or the FAA grants.

 

The Defiance College Social Welfare Policy Class and Dr. Elizabeth KimJin Collarday met with the Commissioners for student presentations.  Students presented their policy analysis regarding Senate Bill 176 regarding accessibility to reproductive health services; the lack of enforcement of the Ohio smoking ban; admissions of convicted felons to Defiance College.
