Cindy Mack from the Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau came in to talk to the Board about effects of the transition from the Greater Defiance Area Tourism and Visitors Bureau to Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau.

Cindy’s goal is to not just promote tourism in the City of Defiance, but to promote “County-wide” tourism.  This includes businesses from the Villages of Hicksville, Ney and Sherwood.  Cindy would like to coordinate efforts within the county by meeting quarterly with a representative of the villages thus allowing a broader scope of information to cross-market special events within the county.

Cindy also discussed the Visitors Bureau goals for 2007 as being a continuation of many of the efforts that have taken place over the years with the Visitors Bureau.  There will be a reevaluation of efforts and their effectiveness, coordination of agencies area-wide in marketing and promotional materials such as maps, calendars, informational materials and brochures.  There will be less duplication of the same efforts with agencies such as the Chamber, Economic Development, City and County.

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met briefly with the Board of County Commissioners.

Warren brought in the plans for signature from the Board for the bridge reconstruction on Casebeer-Miller Road.  The bridge is located in Hicksville Township, Township Road 106. This project will not be bid until late January 2007.

Warren also mentioned, weather permitting, Arrowsmith Road Bridge will be closed for maintenance this week.

Warren is also planning to replace a culvert on Seevers Road, east of Rosedale.

Warren also discussed the maintenance agreement they have with the City of Defiance.  This agreement includes plowing Elliott Road from Christy Road to the K of C and Carpenter Road to Domersville Road.

The Commissioners then met with Defiance County Emergency Management Director Julie Fowler along with Larry Woods from First Insurance.  Larry discussed renewal to the CORSA Agreement.

Larry mentioned there were very few changes to the coverage.  The property values of the buildings and bridges went up, the contents of the buildings went down and the contractor’s equipment values are up from 2006.

The Commissioners then met briefly with Ken Maag with Poggemeyer Design Group regarding the Auglaize Sewer project.  Ken advised he would submit the paperwork for the permits and purchase the easements.
