DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, December 8, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator, Lyla Gurwell Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

8:30 A.M.        General Session         The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions, contracts and documents for approval of the Commissioners.  Commissioners also approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

Approved Fiscal Year 2006 General Fund Budget of $10,362,527.42.

 

10:00 A.M.      Senior Center Director Tina Hiler visited the Commissioners to discuss working with the Prosecutors Office to draw up paperwork with the Visiting Nurses in order to stay in compliance with Area Office on Aging and the nutrition monitor.

 

Informed the Board that Billie Johnson, Director of Area Office on Aging called to inform Tina that there will be a visit from the Ohio Advisory Council in May of 2006.  They will be meeting at various sites throughout the day including Defiance county Senior Services.

 

Discussed the need to work with the Path Center in Pre-packaging home deliveries for the Senior Center and to have them ready for pick-up to facilitate faster delivery of the packages along with the hot meals for the seniors.

 

10:00 A.M.  Defiance County Public Safety Director Mark Hopper came in to discuss the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Vendor Grant Agreement between the Board of Commissioners, Public Safety Services and the Volunteer Connection)

 

Mark reported that his office is doing all administrative duties associated with this agreement.  Mark indicated that the reports for certification of new people are forwarded to the Ohio Emergency Management Association as training occurs.

 

Mark also reported the certification kits for the training are purchased through this grant which includes hard hats, vests, gloves and materials for preparation of the training.

 

The Commissioners as well as Mark Hopper feel that it is a good program and would like to continue to support the training of new members.

 

11:30 A.M.  The Defiance County Sheriff Dave Westrick opened one bid today during the bid opening for the two new Cruisers.  Mark Moats Ford submitted a bid for $19,735 per unit.  No other bids were received.  The Commissioners will take the Sheriff’s recommendation under advisement.
