DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners’ Office received an annexation petition for 9.338 acres of real estate in Richland Township into the City of Defiance.  The agent for the petitioners is Marc Warncke. The area being requested to be annexed is between East Second Street and Hopkins Street and Hickory Street and Buckeye Street.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board.  Laura provided the following department updates:

Child Support reported for November that approximate caseloads include 2,848 cases with orders and 290 cases without orders, $6,514,332 collections year to date, $638,677 expenditures year to date, $600,068 actual collections for the month, and $210 average collection per case for the month. 

Senior Center.  The Defiance County Senior Services Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale will be December 16th and 17th at the Defiance Senior Center. 

                 Wastewater reported that they worked on a spare grinder pump, serviced the floats at the Evansport pump station and worked on the Express Sewer old air release valve.

 

Laura provided the Commissioners with an update on the Historic Sheriff’s Residence and Jail renovation project and provided the Board with a floor-by-floor listing of artwork that will be placed in the building. Laura also informed the Board that painting of file cabinets and shelving will take place this weekend in certain County offices. Vivid Colors will paint file cabinets and shelving in the Wastewater, Recorder and Treasurer’s offices this weekend with colors that match with the décor of the new building.

 

Laura informed the Board that Underground Utilities, the Auglaize River Sewer Sanitary Sewer contractor, is continuing to install services under 111.  They are starting South and working North with approximately one dozen services completed out of thirty-five.

 

James Mosley & Jim Hamilton, Mannik & Smith, met with the Commissioners for a presentation on accomplishments, projects and advantages of their service for the Defiance County Landfill.
