DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.   Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the General Fund Budget at $11,207,009.86, which is a 1.67% increase over 2008.

 

The Commissioners accepted the resignation of Morris Murray, Child Support Enforcement Agency Director effective at 11:59 p.m. on January 4, 2009.  The Commissioners approved hiring Sandra Schappert as Child Support Enforcement Agency Director effective at 12:00 a.m. January 5, 2009.  The Prosecutor has agreed to do the legal work for CSEA.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board.  Laura also provided a project update.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Manager, met with the Board for his monthly update.  Mr. Houck submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill to the Board.  The sales summary total for November 2008 was $227,291.45. The annual tons total to date is 7,220.19 and the annual cubic yards are 26,451.  Mr. Houck also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for November 2008 is 26,451 vs. 33,503 for this same time in 2007.  The yearly monthly tons comparison submitted for November 2008 was 7,220.19 tons vs. 7,338.27 tons in November 2007.  Leachate monthly gallon total for the month of November was 467,508. 

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, presented his November 2008 report to the Commissioners. Randy reported that he received 95 complaints, of which 5 were dog bites.  17 dogs were taken to the shelter and there were 14 citations issued.  Randy also transported 1,500 pounds of animals to the Landfill and drove 2,303 miles for the month of November.  New dog tags went on sale December 1, 2008.  The cost is $14.00 per dog.  Dog tags can be purchased at the following locations: Defiance County Auditor’s Office, Defiance County Humane Society, Defiance Area Animal Hospital, Ayersville Carryout, Jewell Grain, Hicksville Police Department, Town & County Pets and Pet Supplies Plus.

 

The Commissioners canceled the Study Session that was scheduled for 1:15 p.m. due to lack of agenda items.
