DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2005

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, December 22, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, County Administrator and Lyla Gurwell, Clerk.

 

8:30 A.M.     General Session

 

The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed the calendar of events.

 

The Board of Commissioners approved the 2006 Holiday Schedule.

 

The Board approved Defiance County Job & Family Services to utilize the State Purchasing Program Membership for various purchases. 

 

Also approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the Defiance County Board of Commissioners, Defiance County Family & Children First Council and Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission.  This enables NOCAC to receive financial reimbursement for Parent Mentoring services to third parties.

 

Also approved the award of a new Crown Victoria from Mark Moats Ford, Defiance, Ohio for the amount of $19,735.  The Defiance County Board of Commissioners discussed the purchase a new front wheel drive Sheriff’s Cruiser through state bid at a price of $16,754.

 

9:30 A.M.     Becky Wagner, Defiance County Administrator reported the donation of 25 loads of dirt to close out the old Christy Meadows treatment plant.  The Board of Commissioners would like thank Mr. Alfred Zimmer for his generous donation.

 

Becky spoke with Bob Arend, Arend Enterprises regarding the abstract for the property taxes.  They have been sent to the state on Monday, December 19, 2005.  The Taxes will be available on the Auditors web site on December 28, 2005.  The password for this web site will be removed for one week to allow those who would like to view their taxes without the restriction of needing the password.

 

Becky also reported that the Defiance County Safety Committee met on Tuesday, December 20 and discussed CPR training available to County Employees through the Defiance County Health Department.  More information will be given to the employees with their paychecks.

 

10:30 A.M.    Tim Houck, Defiance County Environmental Services came in to discuss his monthly report for December.  Tim requested the hiring of a part-time employee for Environmental Services and Maintenance Department on a part-time basis.  The Board approved the request to hire James Powell who previously worked at the Defiance County Landfill as a Seasonal Employee.

 

Tim also reported for the Month of November the total annual tons collected were 9,567.46, annual cubic yards for November came in at 26,183, compacted ( 62%) vs. loose cubic yards (38%), .  To date in 2005, the landfill has collected a total (through November) of 283,594 cubic yards of waste as compared to 313,787 total cubic for 2004.  Leachate monthly gallon total through November is 136,890.  This is much higher than the October total of 64,370 gallons pumped.

 

11:30 A.M.    Greg Reinhart, Waste Water Operations Director came in to discuss the hiring of a Wastewater Operator.  No decision was made at this time.

 

The Commissioners met for a Study Session on Wednesday to discuss American Ag Fuels.  The Board of Commissioners are working on a mutual agreement with American Ag Fuels.  Our prosecuting attorney is reviewing this agreement.  There was no decision made.

 

Also reviewed the Airport Sewer Project.  The Commissioners had hoped to obtain as high as $100,000 in grant money for this project.  They will be working closely with the Airport Board on this project.

 

The Board also met with City officials regarding the financial issues for the Elliott Road project between Sate Route 66 and Carpenter Road.  The estimated cost of this project is approximately one million dollars.  The Commissioners set a bid date for this project of January 26, 2005 at 10:00 a.m.
