NEWS RELEASE

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in the Conference Room of the Board at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2002.  Present on this date were: Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell, Becky Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.

8:30 a.m.        Commissioners reviewed the agenda for the day, which was light, and signed a number of resolutions presented by the Clerk.

9:30 a.m.        Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her update for the Commissioners.  Several phones in the Commissioners’ offices are being replaced as they are not working properly.  The County’s telephone maintenance person, Mike Koenig, submitted a quote for a new voice mail system for the Commissioners’ offices.  Commissioners asked Becky to review the quote and gave their approval to have the system installed if it was acceptable.

CPR training is being offered by the City’s Paramedics on February 5th and 6th and again on February 12th and 13th.  The training will be held at the Public Safety Services facility.  The training is open to the public; however, Ms. Wagner is hoping to have representatives from each County department take the training.

The first County Safety Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22 at 8:00 a.m.  It will be held in the Second Floor Conference Room and representatives from each department will be requested to attend.  The Board of Commissioners encouraged all departments to participate in the program.

10:30 a.m.      The Defiance Clinic annexation continuation was held at this time.  Present for the meeting was Steve Hubbard, The Law Offices, Agent for the Petitioner; Chad Peter, Defiance Clinic; Russ Herman, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Defiance County; Otto Meyer, Richland Township Trustee; and Jerry Hayes, Defiance County Economic Development Director.  Otto Meyer informed the Commissioners that Richland Township Trustees have no objection to this annexation and, as there was no additional information or other discussion, Commissioners approved the annexation petition.

1:00 p.m.        The Maumee Valley Planning Commission meeting, scheduled for this time, was cancelled due to lack of agenda items.
