The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017 in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Mick Pocratsky and Gary Plotts; Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update from the Engineer’s Office and the Landfill. Warren reported that they are working on a culvert replacement on CR 424.
Jerry Hayes and Carla Hinkle, Defiance County Economic Development, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on various economic development matters.
Greg Reinhart and Jan Rethmel, Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Greg reported the following items being completed in July: cleaned pump at Paulding County’s Auglaize River Sewer Pump Station #1; installed new motor capacitors at Paulding County’s Auglaize River Sewer Pump Station #4; used four generators during power outage during storms; changed grinder pump on Haller Road; installed new pump at Paulding County’s Auglaize River Sewer Pump Station #1; installed new sump pump at Christy Road Pump Station; checked grinder pump on Timbercrest Drive; unplugged return sludge and skimmer line at Evansport Wastewater Treatment Plant. Greg informed the Board that the new pump station for Evansport began operating. Greg reported billing out $64,255.14, collecting $63,207.82, and having expenses of $79,727.67 in July.
Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to discuss various pending legal matters.
Craig Beilharz, Beilharz Architects, met with the Commissioners to discuss a possibly landscaping project for the Courthouse. The Commissioners requested more information before they will make a decision on using the firm for the landscaping design services.
