The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017 in the Commissionersí Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Mick Pocratsky and Gary Plotts, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session. They approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the following paid holidays for all Defiance County Offices for Fiscal Year 2018; all Defiance County Offices will be closed on the following dates:

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the bid opening for the 2017 Watson Road Bridge. The Engineerís pre-bid estimate for the project was $980,081.50. The following bids were received: RG Zachrich $1,069,185.16; Miller Bros Construction $1,163,497.70; Vernon Nagel $1,060,589.24. The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will award later.

 

Jerry Hayes and Carla Hinkle, Defiance County Economic Development, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Carla provided the Board with an update on the Workforce Development programs.

 

Janalee Rethmel, Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Jan reported the following items being completed in October: cleaned pump at Christy Pump Station; changed grinder pump on Oak Forest Drive; changed grinder on Christy Road; winterized all plants and pump stations; sewer permit inspection on Misty Shores Drive; cleaned over flow pipes at Auglaize River Sewer lagoons. Jan reported billing out $57,373.54, collecting $55,583.66, and having expenses of $41,850.04 in October.

 

Ken Keller and Julie Keller, First Insurance Group, met with the Commissioners to review options for the 2018 employee health insurance.
