The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in the in the Hicksville Village Council Room in Hicksville, Ohio. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Tim Franklin, Paulding County Park District, and Brad Dysinger, Friends of the Park, met with the Commissioners to discuss working together to promote activities along the rivers. The Commissioners agreed to provide letters of support for any grants involving the promotion of the area rivers and activities along the rivers.
Jamie Walters, Black Swamp Beekeepers Association and Defiance County Apiary Inspector, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Jamie reported that the inspections of the apiaries in the County will begin in the next couple weeks. He also provided an update on the Community Apiary that will be on County property on Schick Road. He stated that grants have paid for the fencing, hive stands, pollinator trees and pollinator seed packets. The groundbreaking for the Community Apiary will be held on Friday, May 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the site.
