The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. President Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session; they approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Board is continuing to deliberate the proposed estimated $1.5 million renovation project for the first floor of the Commissioners’ Building, including how to fund the project. The project could be funded by bonding the entire amount, bonding a portion of the amount, or paying cash for the project.

 

The Board was informed that on the Domersville Road bridge over US 24 during the Clinton Street Bridge project there will be a temporary stop light installed for the south intersection. There will be a permanent stop light installed for the north intersection.

 

Sandy Kessler and Marissa Lumbrezer, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, and Jim Brown, Village of Hicksville, met with the Commissioners for the bid opening for the Village of Hicksville Street Improvements CDBG 2018 Project. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $42,800.00. The following bids were received: Gerken Paving, Inc. - $43,920.50; Henry W. Bergman - $36,862.50; Morlock Asphalt - $39,630.25; Ward Construction Co. - $35,481.10. The Commissioners took the bids under advisement.

 

Ron Cereghin, Defiance County Maintenance Supervisor, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the projects of the Maintenance Department.

 

Sandy Kessler and Marissa Lumbrezer, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners to hold the Second Public Hearing for the PY 2018 CDBG Program. Sandy explained that there are no projects submitted for possible funding at this time, but there may be projects submitted for funding in the future.

 

Sandy Kessler and Marissa Lumbrezer, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners for the bid opening for the Village of Ney Water Treatment Plan Improvements CDBG Project. There were no bids received.

 

The Commissioners are hosting the next Lunch on the Road on Friday, May 18th from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Jigg’s Rootbeer Stand. The Commissioners would like to encourage the Defiance County citizens to meet with them, and other elected officials, to discuss any concerns you may have.
