DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, September 11, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

Mike Koenig from Koenig Securities came in to discuss replacing the telephone system at the Courthouse.  Mike indicated the Commissioners might want to consider replacing the system as a number of telephone calls have been dropped and it seems to be happening throughout the courthouse.  Mike also indicated it would get increasingly difficult to get the components needed to keep the current system running.  The Board did not make a decision to replace the current system at this time.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer came in to update the Commissioners on his project list.

Warren mentioned he has closed Farmer-Mark Road north of Blosser to start the bridge replacement project.

 

Warren mentioned his staff has been working on a survey based control network system that ties in with their GIS system.  This new feature can be found on the Engineer’s web site at http://www.defiance-county.com/engineer/engineer.html.

 

Warren also advised the Board that Behnfeldt Road would be paved this week with guardrail also being installed.  The bridge should be opened by the end of the week.

 

Elliott Road is open to through traffic.  Warren explained there are a few items that remained unfinished but are not significant.  The contractor will work on these items as time allows.

 

Warren also brought in the final job cost accounting for several jobs.  The Fountain Street Road project 0.45 miles west of Lake Road included the construction of GRS abutment walls in preparation of contracted pre-cast beam placement. The project total was $54,261.

 

In addition, Fountain Street Road 0.25 miles east of Lake Road included constructing GRS headwall extensions and contracted pre-cast beam placement.  The project total was $13,558.

 

Warren also mentioned the Defiance-Henry County Line Road 0.20 miles north of Jewell Road.  This project consisted of replacing the existing structure with 38’ of 79”r x 177”s corrugated aluminized pipe.  The cost was $29,413.

 

Caren Bauer, Executive Director of New Home Development came in to discuss a proposed project site for a ten-unit apartment complex.  The goal of New Home Development is to construct, renovate and operate housing units, which are occupied at whole or in part by adults with special health needs and/ or limited incomes.

 

Future projects in the same area would include a total of 16 acres of ground for development of senior subsidized housing and low to moderate-income home ownership units.
