Chief Deputy Doug Engel began his service to the citizens of the Defiance County in 1984.  Chief Deputy Engel has held various positions including road deputy, K-9 Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Caption and Major. Chief Deputy Engel's position now allows him to oversee the operations of the Sheriff's Office and the day-to-day operations of the Multi Area Narcotics Task Force. Chief Deputy Engel is a graduate of the University of Toledo.

Chief Deputy Engel serves on numerous boards on the local and state level.  Chief Deputy Engel is a life-long resident of Defiance where he and his wife, Pam, have raised their two children.
