K-9 Malek, who originally hails from Germany, has been serving Defiance County since December of 2006.  Prior to his service, K-9 Malek and his handler, Deputy James Scheirer, attended four months of training at the Allen County (IN) K-9 Academy.  K-9 Malek has distinguished himself on numerous occasions and he is the only K-9 in the thirty plus years that Allen County has trained K-9's to make a criminal apprehension on his first day of service.
