You may vote by armed service absentee ballot if:
- You
are an Ohio resident serving on active duty in the U.S. armed forces outside of the
state.
- You
are the spouse or dependent child of a member of the U.S. armed forces serving outside
of the state and otherwise eligible to vote as an Ohio resident.
You may request an armed forces absentee ballot from
the Defiance County Board of Elections by:
- Obtaining
a federal post card application from your voting officer and mailing it to: 1300 E.
Second Street, Suite 103, Defiance, OH 43512 or by faxing it to 419.782.5773.
- Calling
the Defiance County Board of Elections office at 419.782.2906 or 419.782.8543 and
requesting a federal postcard application be mailed to you.
- Mailing
or faxing a letter to the Board of Elections office with the following information:
Name and address where you are registered to vote, the election for which you are
requesting a ballot, if a primary election please indicate your choice of Republican,
Democratic or Issues Only ballot, the mailing address where you would like your ballot
sent, your signature as it appears on your voter registration card and date of birth.
- Only
the federal post card application can be used for registration. Faxed copies are not
permitted.
You may return your absentee ballot to the Defiance
County Board of Elections by:
- Mailing
it to the Board of Elections using the envelope provided.
- You
or a relative may hand-deliver the ballot to the Board of Elections office.
- The
Board of Elections must receive your absentee ballot before 7:30 pm on Election Day to
be counted. Ballots mailed from outside the United States will be counted if
postmarked no alter than Election Day and received no less than ten (10) days after
the election.
- New
voting ID requirements effective June 1, 2006: "Voters
must bring identification to the polls in order to verify identity. Identification may
include a current and valid photo identification, a military identification that shows
the voter's name and current address, or a copy of a current utility bill, bank
statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document, other than this
reminder or a voter registration notification, that shows the voter's name and current
address. Voters who do not provide one of these documents will still be able to vote
by providing the last four digits of the voter's social security number and by casting
a provisional ballot. Voters who do not have any of the above forms of identification,
including a social security number, will still be able to vote by signing an
affirmation swearing to the voter's identity under penalty of election falsification
and by casting a provisional ballot."
