Ohio Children's Trust Fund
The mission of the Ohio Children's Trust Fund (OCTF) is to prevent child abuse and neglect through investing in strong communities, healthy families and safe children. As Ohio's sole, dedicated public funding source for child abuse and neglect prevention, OCTF is in the forefront of prevention activities throughout the state.
Defiance County Family & Children First Council serves as the Local Advisory Board and as the steward for Defiance County's Ohio Children's Trust Fund allocation.
Community gaps and needs are considered and child abuse neglect data provided by Defiance County Children's Services is reviewed annually before determining utilization of the trust funds.
Currently the funds are awarded to Defiance County Health Department for the provision of Home Visiting services for Defiance County families with children birth to 5 years of age (not eligible for Help Me Grow services).
An evidence-based curriculum is delivered to the parent & child by the Home Visitor as they strive to reach the following goals:
- Improved child health & development
- Prevention of child abuse and neglect
- Increased school readiness
- Increased parent involvement in children's care and education
