Help Me Grow
A program for expectant parents, newborns, infants, and toddlers that provides health and developmental services so children start school ready to learn.
Wrap Around
Wrap Around is a free program that serves Defiance County families who have children under the age of 18 who are dealing with many issues. The family selects a team of people, made up of professionals and supportive friends and family, to help come up with ideas to meet the needs that the family has identified.
Wrap Around uses the strengths of the family to help them through difficult times. Wrap Around teams have met to deal with things like:
- Behavior
- Problems at school or in the community
- Emotional needs
- Financial needs
- Parenting and communication
Wrap Around is a collaboration between Family and Children First and Four County Family Center. Wrap Around is funded by the Four County ADAMhs Board and Job and Family Services.

Partnerships for Success
Defiance County involved community members to conduct a comprehensive strategic planning process as part of a two year grant from the State of Ohio. The target area chosen was childhood obesity. The PfS Grant supported evidence-based programs that increase physical activity, improve knowledge of nutrition, and decrease poor nutritional choices.

Moves You Can Use
An exercise DVD for the whole family! Starring kids and adults from Defiance County, this low impact stretching routine encourages families to get moving together. Free exercise workshops are available where families will receive a copy of the DVD and an exercise mat. The DVD also has a segment demonstrating healthy cooking recipes.
Scorecard Program
An easy way for youth age 3 through 6th grade to stay motivated and increase their physical activities. When a child does a half hour of physical activity, parents or teachers/coaches initial one square on the scorecard. When all 24 spaces are initialed, the scorecard can be turned in and entered into a raffle at the end of the session for prizes! Sign up today!
We Can Parent Education Class
Most parents are short on time but still want to help their chidren make nutritious choices! A free class is available to help parents learn ways to keep their families fit and healthy. A healthy cooking demonstration and door prizes are part of the fun. You can come to us or we can bring the parent class to your group or organization!
Way to Go Kids!
An 8 week nutrition and fitness education intervention program taught by a registered dietician. Together with their parents, children ages 8-13 struggling with their weight gain the skills to develop a healthier lifestyle. The program is FREE of charge for Defiance County families and is provided by the Defiance Regional Medical Center.

Ohio Children's Trust Fund
The Defiance County Family & Children First Council is the local advisory board for the Ohio Children's Trust Fund which offers grants to local organizations to help prevent child abuse and neglect.
Current Grant Recipient
Maternal Depression Screening and Support is provided by the Defiance County General Health District, 1300 East Second Street, Suite 100, Defiance, Ohio 43512. As a part of the Welcome Home newborn and prenatal home visit, expecting parents and new moms are given information about the warning signs of maternal depression and the local resources available. New moms are screened for maternal depression using a nationally recognized assessment tool and referred for additional help if needed. A monthly support group is also offered for moms with children less than one year of age. For more information about these services contact (419) 784-3818.
