Vocational
The Defiance Board of MR/DD contracts with various agencies to provide a variety of programming options including both sheltered employment and training programs. In Sheltered Employment individuals work on sorting, packaging, collating, and assembly jobs brought into the Stryker facility. Training Programs are offered for those individuals who have expressed an interest in community employment which may be in areas such as Food Service,  Janitorial, Machine Operation, and Clerical and Computer Skills.

Community Employment
Once an individual expresses an interest in community employment, he/she will be referred to the Rehabilitation  Services Commission. Steps toward successful community employment include job compatibility, finding a job through a job developer. A job coach will train the individual and gradually fade out as the individual becomes proficient at performing the job.

Transportation
For individuals who attend a program operated by Quadco,
Quadco provides transportation to and from the individual's home. For those individuals who work in the community, the Board of MR/DD will assist in providing transportation if the  individual has no other means of transportation and if the work schedule is compatible with the transportation schedule.

Senior Retirement Program
This program offers an alternative to those individuals who are developmentally disabled and would like to retire. To participate in this program, the individual has to be fifty years of age or older and have the approval of the Senior Program Director. He/she must demonstrate a desire to  decrease his/her work activity. Individuals will participate in the four areas emphasized in the program: Socialization, Health and Nutrition Education, Physical Fitness and Leisure Skills. Anyone interested in any of these programs should call 782-6621 and ask for his/her case manager.
