The Defiance County Department of Job & Family Services has been serving the residents of Defiance County for many years, by administrating public assistance programs of the state and federal government, investigating complaints of suspected child abuse and neglect, and providing needed supportive services. Our direction has changed many times, most recently with the implementation of Welfare Reform legislation which placed increased emphasis on personal responsibility and self-sufficiency; the addition of several new programs, such as the Prevention Retention and Contingency (PRC) and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs; and the merger of our state office (the former Department of Human Services) with the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services.  Our mission is to serve the residents of Defiance County utilizing the programs and dollars available to us, to help people improve their lives through economic self-sufficiency, protect and provide for those unable to meet their own needs, and to enhance the community for future generations.

Services are available to any resident of Defiance County.  Income and resources limitations may apply for programs and services based on economic need. Appointments are scheduled for on-going assistance, walk ins are welcome for information and referral, or emergency needs.  Agency hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
