Powell Creek Nutrient Reduction Program
Extent of Powell Creek watershed in Defiance, Henry, Paulding and Putnam Counties.
The Defiance Soil and Water Conservation District has been awarded a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Grant through the Ohio EPA to implement practices that address water quality issues throughout the Powell Creek Watershed. We are fortunate to be partnering with the Putnam SWCD to provide landowner cost sharing for the planting of cover crops, constructing and restoring wetlands, having a CCA develop VRT nutrient management plans, developing whole farm resource management plans, and assisting with the installation erosion reducing practices such as grassed waterways and grade stabilization structures. As we enter the second and final year of the project, we still have opportunities for landowners to participate in each of the above practices. Please contact the Defiance or Putnam SWCDs for more information.
