DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 2012

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Clerk Stephanie Metz called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr., Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Robert Bailey, III, Defiance County Treasurer, and Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for the 2011 4th Quarter Investment Advisory Meeting. The Defiance County Investment Portfolio, Landfill Closure Portfolio and Post Closure Portfolio were approved.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates. Laura provided the following department updates:

            Family & Children First/Help Me Grow: Julie Voll reported that Early Childhood Screenings will take place in Hicksville on February 27, 2012 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 121 West High Street, Hicksville from 9:00am-2:00pm and on March 5, 2012 in Defiance at the Zion’s Lutheran Church, 1801 East Second Street, Defiance from 9:00am-4:30pm. For Hicksville appointments, call 419.542.7475. For Defiance appointments, call Help Me Grow at 419.782.6934. The Early Childhood Screenings are in cooperation with Defiance County School Districts.

            Maintenance: Ron Cereghin reported that a fan motor in an air handler was replaced at the County garage office.

 

Terry Howarth and Cindy Mack met with the Commissioners to discuss the possibility of Mr. Howarth utilizing the Community Room at the Senior Center during the 2012 Holiday Season to have a model train display open to the public. The Commissioners will review Mr. Howarth’s request and make a decision at a later date.

 

Jack Graf, Defiance County Job & Family Services Director, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Transportation Program and Workforce Experience Program. Jack is continuing to look into other options for both programs.

 

The Commissioners met with Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, Bob Arend, Arend Enterprises, Josh Koenig, Koenig Securities, and Ron Cereghin, Defiance County Maintenance Supervisor, to discuss the Courthouse plans.

 

The Commissioners recently received the December 2011 Monthly Activity Report from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported collecting $8,301.23 in Legal, $18,713.66 in Title, $384,996.04 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax, and $85.90 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of $74,290.44 in Legal and $383,811.00 in Title. There were 1,549 titles issued, 415 notations of liens and 390 inspections.
