DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JANUARY 23, 2012

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr., and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners passed a resolution In Support of Defiance Public Library Ballot Issue (Levy renewal) on March 2, 2012 Election.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. 

 

A Public Hearing was held regarding Obstructions by Toledo Edison in public road right of way on Harding Road and The Bend Road. Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer has attempted to work with Toledo Edison to have all power poles moved back to the edge of the new road right-of-way along these roads to avoid further traffic hazards. After hearing and viewing information presented, the Commissioners ordered the removal of the right of way obstructions on Harding Road and The Bend Road.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tina stated that she would like to thank the APEX Company for their donation of approximately 75 chairs, office equipment, magazine racks, hand crafted wall cabinets, tables, posters and carts. The Senior Prom is currently being planned for May 16th at the Defiance Eagles with the band Memory Lane as entertainment.

 

Gary Thompson, Jobs Ohio & Regional Growth Partnership, and Jerry Hayes and Jared Orzalek, Defiance County Economic Development, met with the Commissioners to discuss Jobs Ohio and how Defiance County can best utilize the services offered.

 

Jerry Overmier & Lyn Clady, Beilharz Architects, Judge Strausbaugh and Judge Schmenk met with the Commissioners to discuss the Courthouse Project. They discussed what changes could be made to the current proposal. Beilharz Architects will continue to work on the plans and review the options presented.
