DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Clerk Stephanie Metz called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr., Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Based upon the recommendation of Chris Clawson, the Board awarded the bid for one (1) marked all-wheel drive/four wheel drive patrol cruiser to Mark Moats Ford for one (1) 2012 Ford Utility Police Interceptor in the amount bid by them of $24,998.00. They also rejected the bid for one (1) marked rear wheel drive patrol cruiser and authorized the purchase of one (1) 2012 Dodge Charger for the state bid price of $21,271.00 from the approved contractor, Greve Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Inc. out of Van Wert, Ohio.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates. Laura informed the Board that there are currently 122 residents plus the residents of the Belden’s subdivision hooked up to the Auglaize River Sewer Project.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tim reported the 2011 recycling totals as follows: 1,013# aluminum, 20 barrels, 1,250# batteries, 54,343# cardboard, 13 cell phones (Through Soldiers for Cell Phones), 250# Clothing (Goodwill), 46,920# co-mingle, 17,820# computers, 16,710# household hazardous waste, 4# mercury, 46,670# newspapers, 44,963# office paper, 26,975# plastic, 60,040# school paper and 15,140# iron/steel for a total of 332,141 pounds. The 2011 County road litter collection goal was 984 miles; there was a total of 961 miles completed.

 

Tim provided an update to the Board on the recent equipment fire at the Landfill. Tim is working with the County’s insurance provider, CORSA, for rental until a replacement is obtained.  The Board also approved Tim to prepare bid documents in anticipation of acquiring a new unit.

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Greg informed the Board that in December there was $59,409.22 billed, $61,577.55 collected, and expenses of $83,575.45. All plants and pump stations were winterized, greased and oiled.
